American Girl Dolls
American Girl is the main doll brand that I design for. They have the widest and most beautiful selection of dolls to choose from. They are my favorite dolls because of their amazing quality and the story that comes with each doll. I have been collecting them for more than 10 years. Here is a photo of Joss wearing a dress from the Chrysanthemum pattern.
Below is a list of other 18-inch dolls, some fit my patterns perfectly and some need a little bit of adjusting.
Our Generation Dolls
Our Generation Dolls are the dolls that are mainly sold in Target but you can also buy them on Amazon. They are probably the closest to American Girl Dolls in terms of body measurements and their bodies fit my pattern perfectly. I would say that Our Generation Dolls is my second favorite 18-inch dolls in terms of its quality and wide selection.
The only little downside I see on these dolls is the not so smooth transition between the neck and chest which makes some of the clothes look awkward on them especially the ones that show a lot of neckline. Here is a photo of my Our Generation dolls wearing the Puffy Dress.
My Life As Dolls
My Life as Dolls is the 18-inch doll brand of Walmart. They have thinner bodies than American Girl Dolls and Our Generation Dolls. I am impressed however of the doll’s wig as they are soft and well made. The face is well painted and pretty with eyes that opens and closes.
Half of the body is vinyl and half fabric which makes clothes look better on them. A simple way to adjust my patterns to fit this brand of dolls is to reduce the center back pattern by 1/4". Or if she just sharing the clothes with an American Girl Doll, just pin the back by 1/2" and it should fit her fine, just like my My Life Doll here shown in the photo below. She is wearing the puffy dress with long sleeves.
Journey Girls
Our Journey Girls is another doll that have been around for a while. They are also very popular model when it comes to 18-inch doll commercial patterns. They have thinner legs and arms and the body is half vinyl and half fabric.
Compare to the other 18-inch dolls mentioned above, Our Journey Girls is a bit taller and has thinner arms and legs. And same as My Life as Dolls, a simple way to adjust my patterns to fit this brand of dolls is to reduce the center back pattern by 1/4".
Or if she just sharing the clothes with an American Girl Doll, just pin the back by 1/2" and it should fit her fine, just like my Journey Girl doll shown in the photo below. She is wearing a dress made from the Camellia Dress pattern.
Springfield Dolls
Springfield Dolls is another brand of 18-inch dolls that have also been around for a while. These dolls also almost have the same body measurement as Our American Girl Dolls. They are also popular among doll seamstresses possibly because you can easily find them at your local craft store such as Joann and Michaels. The disadvantage of these dolls is their low quality but you can expect that given that you can purchase them for below $20.
